Muddy, sweaty and for adults only

The Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC) has announced a new entertainment lineup for Fountain Square, including adult films on its giant TV screen and live nude mud wrestling.

The idea is the brainchild of John Fox, new vice president of 3CDC and former co-publisher of CityBeat. Fox said he wants to capitalize on the success that the newspaper had with raunchy classified ads and the popularity of the “Savage Love” sex column it once carried.

“It’s a perfect fit,” Fox said. “After all, CityBeat has been whoring around with 3CDC for several years now.”

Fox said he is negotiating with Vice Mayor Roxanne Qualls to strip down and wrestle in the mud with City Councilman Charlie Winburn.

The adult films will be nothing beyond R-rated soft porn. The films and nude mud wrestling will begin at 9 p.m. nightly.

“This is consistent with 3CDC’s mission,” Fox said. “Just as 3CDC is turning Washington Park into a playground and dog park for rich people attending concerts at Music Hall, reclaiming it from the homeless bums who used to hang out there, 3CDC has worked hard to restrict Fountain Square to people who have a disposable income. After 9 p.m., kids should be at home with their parents, not on Fountain Square, so no impressionable young minds will be affected by this new programming.”

Fox also said the Hustler Store has signed an agreement to operate a booth selling sex toys and videos during the adult programming on the square.

In 2008 CityBeat sued Citizens for Community Values, a local anti-pornography group; the city of Cincinnati; and several local officials, including Winburn, for accusing the paper of promoting prostitution. The lawsuit was settled out of court.

Citizens for Community Values said it will not stage protests on Fountain Square to stop the adult programming.

“Fountain Square used to be a place where people could freely exercise their First Amendment rights,” said a statement issued by Citizens for Community Values. “But that all changed when Cincinnati City Council gave control of the square to 3CDC. Isn’t it ironic that John Fox, who sued us for violating his First Amendment rights, is now in bed with a corporation that denies those same rights to others?”

Phil Burress, executive director of Citizens for Community Values and a self-described pornography addict, said he will be on hand during the adult programming to take notes.

“I just think this sort of think should be thoroughly observed and documented,” he said. “I don’t want to have to watch this kind of foul behavior, but it’s my job.”

Fox denied reports that Burress had expressed an interest in participating in a nude mud-wrestling match with Mayor Mark Mallory.
